Abstract:

This metadata record describes the 0.5-foot pixel resolution digital orthoimagery produced for Lancaster County, PA by the Sanborn Map Company. The orthoimagery provided is 4-band (R, G, B, NIR), 8-bit per pixel and delivered in section tiles in uncompressed TIFF/TFW format. A compressed mosaic is also provided in SID/SDW format (20:1). The data was flown between March 12, 2024 and March 25, 2024 at an altitude of 8200 feet AGL using an UltraCam Osprey camera and complies with the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Accuracy Standards (ASPRS) for Class 1, large scale maps at 1" = 100'.  This orthoimagery is published in Pennsylvania South State Plane, NAD83(2011), FIPS Zone 3702 (US Survey Feet).

Purpose:

This digital Orthoimagery can serve a variety of purposes, from general planning to field reference for spatial analysis to a tool for revision of vector maps. It can also serve as a reference layer for GIS.

All formatted data are validated using commercial GIS software to ensure proper formatting and loading prior to delivery.

Completeness_Report:

The 326 ortho image tiles are checked for missing pixels, gaps, overlaps and other anomalies generally associated with digital orthophoto products. Any discrepancies in the ortho tiles are resolved through the use of proprietary and industry editing tools. Once the images are copied to the deliverable media they are further checked for naming, image completeness, and ability to be loaded in ArcMap.

Process_Description:

The Digital Natural Color aerial imagery was acquired between March 12, 2024 and March 25, 2024 using a Microsoft Ultracam Osprey sensor flown at a nominal height of 8200 feet AMT (Above Mean Terrain). GNSS/IMU data was also collected and processed using POSPac (version 8.8) Mobile Mapping Suite. The Ground Control used to support the 4-band ortho-imagery production was collected by identifying and surveying photo identifiable points (PID). The Aerial Triangulation (AT) was performed using Inpho Match-AT software. Digital Elevation Models (DEM) used for ortho imagery production were downloaded via 3DEP. The images were then orthorectified using Inpho OrthoMaster software. Color balancing, seamless mosaicking was performed by automatic seam line creation steps, and final extractions were also accomplished using Inpho OrthoVista software. A final radiometric correction was performed using Adobe PhotoShop software. The imagery product deliverables are GeoTIFF images with embedded header information describing the required projection, pixel size, tile size and other related data and corresponding world files (.tfw). Derivative compressed mosaic imagery (20:1) is also available in MrSID format.
